We woke up this morning just before sunrise, and were treated to beautiful views of the sun rising over the buttes. So glad we camped in the Badlands. Camping in the car is always going to be a bit of a hassle, but it was worth it.
We spent most of the day in the Badlands, driving the Loop Road and stopping every so often to marvel at the alien landscape. We hiked a few short trails, including Door Trail and Notch Trail, both of which I highly recommend.
We also spotted a lot of wildlife up close and personal. Tons of birds, some big horn sheep, mountain goats, prairie dogs, and bison.
And then we finished the day with a beautiful scenic drive through the Black Hills National Forest to see Mt. Rushmore.
