We got to the Rockies yesterday around noon Wednesday. You can see the snow-capped peaks coming for miles. We drove along a beautiful mountain road to get into Estes, it was about 75 degrees and sunny. We drove around taking in the view from every angle, then took a 3.6mi hike up to Bear Lake, Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake. The trail was packed with several feet of snow, but it was still quite warm, although slippery. Great conditions for my first "winter" hike! And we were rewarded with beautiful views of a glacier along the continental divide. I'll have more pictures soon, but my camera is acting up, hoping to get it looked at today.
After the hike we drove up to Rainbow Curve, as high as we could get with the higher roads still closed, over 10k feet. Beautiful views again, although it made me kind of car sick.
This morning we got up early to drive around the park looking for wildlife. We saw moose, tons of elk, bighorn sheep, and even a bear in this park. Next we're off to Pike's Peak!
