Got strong wifi tonight, so I wanted to post some more photos from earlier, although we're pretty tired.
Tuesday Tim and I toured Wind Cave and the surrounding prairie lands in the morning. Wind cave is known for its unique boxwork formations, which I tried to get a picture of here. But, you know, caves are dark. We took a scenic road around the prairie and saw tons more adorable squeaking prairie dogs, pronghorns, and an entire herd of bison.
In the afternoon we drove to Devil's Tower, and got our first glimpse of it over 15 miles away. This thing is huge. Once you get up close to it, you almost lose your sense of scale. It seems impossibly big up close. And I expected it to be all red rock, but it was actually quite pale, with lots of faint green lichen of some sort. We walked all the way around to see it from every angle.
That night, we stayed in the terrible parking lot "campground". Not a very satisfying end, but it was a very satisfying day.
